Taken and translated from the IEC site. (updated January 22, 2024)
The Electric Company compensates its customers in certain cases for damage done to electrical appliances due to faults in the electricity supplied.
Who is entitled to compensation?
Any customer of the Electric Company, whose electrical device is damaged by the faults in the electricity supply specified in the standards of the Electric Authority (the body that supervises the Electric Company on behalf of the State of Israel).
What is the standard established by the Electricity Authority regarding damage to electrical appliances?
Point 5 in Chapter 4 of the standards deals with “compensation for damage to electrical appliances and prolonged interruptions in the electrical network”:
Criterion 48 in which the Electricity Authority determined what are the events that qualify for compensation and what are the electrical events for which a customer is not entitled to compensation.
Criterion 49 in which the Electricity Authority determined the manner of submitting a request for compensation by a customer and the manner of handling this request by the Electricity Company.
What are the details that must be mentioned in the application?
- the date of the event
- the time of the event
- event description
- details of the electrical appliances that were damaged
What are the documents that must be attached to it?
- If the device has not yet been repaired, an opinion from a qualified technician regarding the malfunction of the device and a detailed price quote for repairing the device must be attached.
- If the device has already been repaired, an official document must be attached detailing the repair carried out, including details of the replaced parts and an invoice for the repair of the device.
- If it is not possible to repair the damaged device and you have already purchased a new device, you must attach references about the damaged device: a reference from a technical authority that the device cannot be repaired, model, date of purchase and a photo of it, in order to estimate the value of the old device, for which compensation will be given.
How do you contact the electricity company for compensation?
For quick and efficient handling of the request, it is recommended to submit the request using a computerized request form – to submit a form, click here.
